Talking about pre wedding customs, ghari puja is the most important religious custom that is performed at respective houses of the couple. The prayers are performed by the priest. He uses rice, coconut, wheat grains, oil, betel nuts, turmeric and other spices.
Sangeet mehfil is a musical party that takes place in the wedding. Professional singers and orchestra is called for sake of entertainment of guests and the baratis. The wedding starts with the groom’s arrival. He is welcomed by his mother in law with an aarti. After aarti varmala is performed. And finally the bride’s father performs kanyadaan, followed by mangal pheras around the sacred fire. They take seven circles according to Hindu customs. The bride is welcomed in the groom’s family. There is a very strange custom which is carried out at the groom’s house after marriage which is called aeki-beki. This is a custom to see who will be the ruler of the house. And finally become an important part of her new family.
